| INTRODUCTION |
Dear Friend,
The Institute for Peace, Development and Integration is created at a time that Albania and the countries of the Southeastern Europe (SEE) are undergoing a process of profound reforms and transformations in building and strengthening the democratic institutions of the state of the rule-of-law, transforming their armed forces, law enforcement agencies, and the security environment, in creating free-market economies, in guaranteeing the human and civil rights for all their citizens, despite their ethnic background.
This day, all the countries of the SEE have democratically elected governments, and have clearly committed themselves to the long process of integration into the Euro-Atlantic structures and institutions.
There are still many challenges that these countries have to face in this process. These are security and development issues that need a national as well as international approach to be resolved. It is in these matters that IPDI intends to give its contribution.
The mission of IPDI is the promotion of peace, sustainable development and integration into the Euro-Atlantic institutions of Albania and the region of Southeastern Europe, by conducting research studies, publications, conferences, promotional campaigns, as well as other activities contributing to this end.
The institute intends to cooperate with and bring renowned personalities, nationally and internationally, from all governmental departments, academia, civic society, universities, and continuously enlarge an international network of partner organizations and individuals, willing to cooperate in achieving and promoting similar targets.
IPDI will promote peace, development and integration by contributing to the strengthening of national institutions, regional cooperation, by building trust between and among the states and their constituent nationalities, by proposing solutions to strengthening the economic and business ties, as well as by relevant activities that contribute to this end.
The IDPI will convene representatives of the government, civil servants, military, diplomats, economists, business people, independent analysts, journalists, academics, with the purpose of advancing strategic thinking and understanding the political, economic, military, technological, environmental, social and religious trends and other fora that could impact the social, economic, security relations at the national, regional and international level.
IPDI was founded by Ilir Meta, MP, Head of European Commission, Albanian Parliament; Sokol Nako, Attorney at Law; Edmond Haxhinasto, MBA, MPP; Sokol Dervishaj, MA in International Studies and RCDS; and Artan Kuxhuku, Lawyer. President of the Board is H.E. Mr. Ilir Meta. Executive Director of the Institute is Mr. Edmond Haxhinasto.
The Institute for Peace, Development and Integration (IPDI), is created as a non-profit organization, organized in the form of a foundation.
The Foundation “Institute for Peace, Development and Integration”, is registered in the District Court of Tirana by Decision 122, dated 10 February, 2004.
